Set Sail for Blue Monday

Happy Blue Monday to you all! Finally here in the Midwest we are beginning to see Springlike temps and while I have visions of lovely blue hydrangeas dancing thru my head the love of my life Jim has visions of blue sailing skies, blue (?) Lake Michigan waters...and our 1962 Rhodes Sloop Sailboat that is a work of Vintage Art in progress! Although I would rather stay home on Friday he has informed me that it is time Friday on his next day off to go take her winter cover off,so restoration may continue! The below picture is from last year when Jim had to climb the 25 foot mast as one of the ropes came loose! Of course he was in his sailing glory and I was a wreck, although I was able to grab the camera as it made for an interesting picture!
Once the rope was secured this is the view of leaving the harbor to the Lake! Can you see the lovely blue trim on the back of our boat? And the lovely skyline of Chicago? Truly a sailors delight! A delight girls only if you are Sailor...and a sailor I am not! Those beautiful blue waters scare the heck out of me!
I prefer to enjoy our "WAXWING" as she is so proudly named from her boatstands in Goose Island Boat Yards! With this being my second official year as his first mate he has BIG plans for me!
Stay tuned as I share with you the progress of the Waxwing, but before I do....I shall go take one of those little blue motion sickness pills, grab my blue bucket (can you imagine what for???) and hold on tight as my fingers turn blue holding clutching tightly to the rails!
Hold on girls...we may be in for the ride of our life...
While I look forward to setting sail please join Smiling Sally over at her blog for a listing of all the girls participating in this blue monday..click o on the lovely little bluebird to take you there!

Off to Lake Michigan ....

My Boyfriend Jim and I are off to Lake Michigan today..well not really the Lake but off to Goose Island boatyard in Chicago where it is the sad day that the winter cover goes on the sailboat! It is a sad day for him as this is the official end of the sailing season, and means there is no more working on this little vintage 1963 Rhodes Sloop wooden Sailboat! If you noticed I called it HIS boat...maybe someday when it is totally restored...it will be OUR boat! There is years of marine paint slapped on this beautiful piece of vintage mahogany, and although I have tried to be of great assistance in the restoration of her that industrial strength stripper is not good for the manicure! Although MAYBE next year(yep we are CUB fans too) I will get to sew the new cushions, curtians etc...etc... with the total RWB vintage sailboat fabric I got. Much to his dismay this is a happy day for me,I get to re-claim some time with the love of my life, maybe and I did say MAYBE get to get a few projects done around here and to have manicures last a little longer! Oh geez...how can I reclaim the love of my life when we live here in the Midwest???? From sailboats to BEARS? Oh well....and please hope for us that it is not as windy here in the windy city as last year as that 25 by 30 foot tarp that is her winter blanket caused me to fly like Mary
poppins!
