Thanks to a little rain here in the MIDWEST...I can't go to a Gardening Job...so I am finally visiting my blogfriends....and posting for Vintage Thingy Thursday! So rain...rain...go away...but thank you for letting me visit Blogland today! Today I am sharing a couple of vintage things from Dear Great Aunt Bertha's Estate....true treasures...this one...just how I found it....a box of vintage sewing treasures in a Sonomor Safety Pin box! Tucked inside this lovely box were vintage "blue" buttons ( whew did Aunt Bertha have the buttons...lol...and I thought I was a Button Hoarder) Anyway.....vintage brand new packages of seam binding...remnants of blue and orange seam binding wrapped carefully and pinned on original cardboard....blue and white zippers...salvaged to be re-purposed! Aunt Bertha threw nothing away..... she had gone green before going green was even the "IN" thing to do!
I love this color co-ordinated treasure! Obvious to us that Aunt Bertha sorted everything by color....wait to you see some of the other treasures I have to share in my ETSY shop and on E-Bay!
These are a batch of Metal Buttons, that are listed right now on E-bay....I have no idea of their value or age...does anyone have any ideas? Are there any serious button collectors participating today? Can anyone tell me a good sight to research old buttons? Or a great book on Vintage Buttons to buy? I do know that Aunt Bertha always had a story to share about each salvaged button....lol...she had her own button museum!
Please stop over at Suzannes blog coloradolady.blogspot to partake of more gals sharing their vintage treasures. Click on the lady below...and she will guide you there.....
Happy Vintage Thingy Thursday.....
Oh I want those brass buttons! I love vintage brass buttons for some reason.I really like the one at the top.
ReplyDeleteI love finding things in odd boxes. Nowadays we buy cute boxes instead of using what we've already got.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll check out the giveaways I've got going on this week.
Great fun, sorting through things like that! What a fun little tour!
ReplyDeleteOh, those brass buttons...wow!!! Sometimes brass buttons have a manufacturers name or mark on the back and can be researched by that name.
ReplyDeletelove odd boxes.. and to know that I shall surprise myself with whats inside the box, is fun! happy VTT
ReplyDeleteAmazing treasures you can find in the simpliest of boxes. This is a sweet way to spend a rainy afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYou never no what will turn up when you start looking through old stored boxes.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom buttons look like little cinnamon buns! (remind me not to blog on an empty stomach:)
ReplyDeleteI love your buttons. They are wonderful..and my..how I wish we could hear the stories behind each one...that is what facinated me the most! The stories. Great post today. Have a great VTT.
ReplyDeleteNeat sewing stuff!!
ReplyDeleteEveryone was "green" before the 60's. The age excess came with disposable diapers and plastic everything. If your mother and grandmother had something that worked they used it and saved it and treasured it. Maybe your appreciation of these things and saving stuff will bring us back to a sensible life again.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Makes people think about what they have, what they can reuse and what they don't need to throw away.
Isn't it wonderful to look through treasures like this? Old sewing "boxes" are the best!
ReplyDeleteSuch treasures in a small box. There is nothing like discovering tiny things in old stored boxes.. Happy VTT..have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to look at. I love vintage sewing notions.
ReplyDeleteI love to run my hands through a pile of buttons, feeling all the shapes and textures. I'm coveting your buttons too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great treasure to come across. Your Aunt Bertha sounds like my Grandmother who also never threw anything away and found ways to re-purpose everything.
ReplyDeletePretty blue colors.
Kris
Love those buttons!
ReplyDeleteIt is marvelous to have items that bring back memories and stories...little gems of the past...!
ReplyDeleteThought I better come over here and see what you have been up to lately. For some reason your blog does not update in my dashboard blog list. Also it does not in my blog roll on my blog either. They show last post as being 6 months ago. I am not sure why it does that. There was another blogger that had that trouble and she somehow managed to fix it.
ReplyDeleteI love your treasurers too. Hope all is well with you. Have a great weekend as well!!
Good afternoon, your Ladyship...all these vintage buttons are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI just came in...having a glass of Raspberry Tea..just planted 2 rose bushes and have 2 more to go...whew...what we go thru for FLOWERS!! ;o)
