Set Sail for Blue Monday

Happy Blue Monday to you all! Finally here in the Midwest we are beginning to see Springlike temps and while I have visions of lovely blue hydrangeas dancing thru my head the love of my life Jim has visions of blue sailing skies, blue (?) Lake Michigan waters...and our 1962 Rhodes Sloop Sailboat that is a work of Vintage Art in progress! Although I would rather stay home on Friday he has informed me that it is time Friday on his next day off to go take her winter cover off,so restoration may continue! The below picture is from last year when Jim had to climb the 25 foot mast as one of the ropes came loose! Of course he was in his sailing glory and I was a wreck, although I was able to grab the camera as it made for an interesting picture!
Once the rope was secured this is the view of leaving the harbor to the Lake! Can you see the lovely blue trim on the back of our boat? And the lovely skyline of Chicago? Truly a sailors delight! A delight girls only if you are Sailor...and a sailor I am not! Those beautiful blue waters scare the heck out of me!
I prefer to enjoy our "WAXWING" as she is so proudly named from her boatstands in Goose Island Boat Yards! With this being my second official year as his first mate he has BIG plans for me!
Stay tuned as I share with you the progress of the Waxwing, but before I do....I shall go take one of those little blue motion sickness pills, grab my blue bucket (can you imagine what for???) and hold on tight as my fingers turn blue holding clutching tightly to the rails!
Hold on girls...we may be in for the ride of our life...
While I look forward to setting sail please join Smiling Sally over at her blog for a listing of all the girls participating in this blue monday..click o on the lovely little bluebird to take you there!

  6. What a big lake to sail on! I live on the far east side of Michigan, outside of Detroit on Lake St Clair. We're power boaters, but not in a hurry to get anywhere. Just being on the water, or even sitting on the deck looking at the water is calming.

    Happy Blue Monday!

  7. Oh MY!

I'm torn between thinking how great it would be to have a sailboat, and how terrified I would be to sail in it!

Thanks for visiting my Blue Monday post.

  9. Jane,
I bet you didn't know that I lived in St.John, Indiana just about 5 minutes from the Illinois state line. We could drive to downtown Chicago in an hour. We lived there l0 years. I'm just now finding out you live in Joliet, Ill.. My isn't it a small world.

My husband would have died to go on that Sailboat...he has always loved them.

  13. Happy Blue Monday Lady Jane
Sweet sailing days ahead are in store for you I can tell.
We have a row boat and I do not like to row. I like power things. Living on the river just makes life a little bit better.
Yes spring is in the air. Has your little birdie landed yet? Mimi received hers a couple days ago.
It's my birthday Thursday and I'm celebrating.
    Love to you as always

  19. I remember going sailing across the San Francisco Bay when I was 18. We were sailing into the wind and needed to tack our way across. I think that is what it is called. Anyway, the owner needed me to move out of the way while he changed to a heavier sail, so I had to go down below. Boy, that was a mistake. Made me seasick. I managed to keep everything down, but it took awhile for my stomach to settle when we got to the otherside which was Sausalito. The trip back was better. The wind was pushing us across smoother waters at that time and made for a nice ride.
